A beautiful and easy route for beginners
Triund Trek
Picturesque forests and stone waves
If you are new to trekking, the Triund Trek is the perfect choice for you. The trek starts from Daramkot, McLeod Ganj. The 9-kilometer trek leads hikers through forests of Oak, Deodar (Himalayan cedar) and Rhododendron, and then opens up to some of the best scenery you'll find in the Himalayas. It is an easy trek and can be done by those who are not trekking.
And as the elevation rises, the picturesque hills and valleys become clearer, giving it all a serene touch. Upon reaching the top of Triund, one can see far off hills of the Dhauladhar mountain range that look to be so close that you could touch them if you only extended your hand. There are tea shops on the route where one can rest and enjoy a cup of hot tea.
At about 3000 m above sea level, Triund is part of the Dhauladhar range of Himalayas. It is considered to be one of the most accessible treks in the entire Himalayan range. Triund is a popular trek in all seasons.
You can return the same day, but I recommend staying back and camping at Triund, which is located at a height of 2842 m above sea level. Alternatively, you can also camp overnight at the plateau in the forest rest house (if you are lucky enough to get space) or in the shack. Other options are pitching a tent or sleeping in the open (depending on the season, make sure you are adequately covered).
Gazing at the stars while relaxing in the lap of Dhauladhars is something you must experience. You will wake up to a magical sunrise. Slowly the golden sunrays light up the valley below and mark the beginning of another beautiful day.
From Triund, one can trek to the Lahesh Cave, Ilaqa glacier or further ahead to Indrahar Pass.
