Naddi
Sacred lake and panoramic views
Naddi is a must see village located about 4 kilometres from McLeod Ganj. It is about 2100 metres above sea level and offers a magnificient view of the mostly snow capped Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas. It is surrounded by lush green forests on most sides.
It is perfectly located as a base camp or starting point for many treks – Treks to Bhated Waterfall, Gallu Mata and Triund onwards, to Guna Mata and Kareri, to the picturesque villages of Satovary, Barnet, Gatedi, Barley and Ghera etc.
Naddi is famous for a small natural lake popularly known as the Dal Lake. The rectangular shaped lake is located by the side of the Sunset Point road. Unlike other fresh water lakes the Dal Lake is fed mainly by rain waters from the hills.
This small mid-altitude lake (1,775 m above sea level) is located near the village of Tota Rani in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh state in northern India. The word Dal means 'lake' in several languages of the western Himalayas. The lake is surrounded by deodar trees and is considered to be a sacred spot as there is small Shiva mandir (shrine) on its bank. The lake is home to sacred fish, which are happily fed by pilgrims.
Villages near Naddi
Satovari
Satovari is beautiful village adjoining Naddi, affording a panaromic view of the Kangra valley to the south, including the Pong Dam and the Dhauladhar Mountains to the North. In the tranquility of mountains and chirping of birds, observing such beautiful canvas is lifetime experience altogether.
Barnet
Barnet village is situated about 7 kilometres from Naddi and is at the roads end, meaning that Barnet onwards can only be journeyed on foot. It is surrounded by lush green pine and cedar forests, away from the hustle and bustle of cities and towns, a relatively undiscovered haven of natural beauty, peace and tranquility. It affords panoramic views of the Dhauladhar Himalayan range in the north and lush green forests and majestic sunsets in the south.

The village is rich, quiet and surprisingly beautiful, with a small but significant temple complex, unimaginably combining purely Indian motifs and landscapes that bring to mind the Alps, Switzerland or Austria.

In fact, this is what Naddi is called - Indian Switzerland.
