The Dalai Lama Temple
His Holiness' home in little Lhasa
Tsuglag Khang, also known as the Dalai Lama Temple Complex, is one of the world famous religious centers where Buddhist pilgrims flock all year round. The complex includes Tsuglag Khang Monastery as well as accommodation for His Holiness and his followers.
The complex houses the Photang (Dalai Lama's residence), Tibet Museum, Tsuglagkhang Temple, and Namgyal Gompa. The monastery deals with training of monks for rituals associated with holy shrine, whereas the temple is a chief place of worship. A beautifully decorated statue of Lord Buddha along with beautiful statues of Padmasambhava and Avalokiteshvara are housed in the temple. It is open from sunrise to sunset each day and is visited by thousands of tourist and devotees.
The temple is famous for its beauty. There are many large statues of Buddha, Avaloktwshwara, Pamasambhava and others. You can also find numerous ancient books related to the religion. People visit this temple for meditating and rituals. Once you enter the main area of the temple, you can find people praying and chanting with prayer wheels or prayer wheels. Some people take a relaxed morning walk or evening walk around the temple.
This is a very peaceful temple to visit for sightseeing and meditation. Once you enter the temple, you can find a few lamas in the way. A few shops inside the complex that sell ritual items and books. This temple is the frequent preaching spot of Dalai Lama.
Once you enter through the gate, you can find a small memorial monument. Beyond the monument, you can find a few sets of staircases that will lead you to the main temple. You can always find monks in red and yellow walking around in strict coordination. Inside the temple, you can find a statue of Buddha sitting on a carved pedestal. Pilgrims walk around the statue in clockwise direction as they rotate the prayer wheels. There is a large hall inside the temple for people to meditate.
